Colorful quilt for a young woman. 2005

Image
I was the Young Women's President in 2005.  The young women tied a quilt for a young woman who was having heart surgery.  Her mother tells me she still uses and loves the quilt.  The material has frogs and dragonflys.  The young women wrote a note to her on the plain squares.

Mike's Quilt - "I Spy" Alaska Theme 2005

Image
Doug and I took a trip to Alaska in June, 2005.  I saw this pattern and some of the material in a quilting store in Alaska and I wanted to make this for our son Michael.  The quilt is called "I Spy".  I quilted it by stippling.  I started this in July, 2005 and finished it in Nov. 2005.  It was Mike's Christmas present Dec. 2005.

Insect Quilt Aug. 2004 and second Jan 2026

I saw a  quilt like this made by my friend Sandy Howell.  She shared her pattern with me as I thought it would be a lot of fun to make.   Instead of creating my own frayed strips, I bought the package of strips that are meant to be frayed.  However, the material never did fray out even after several washings and brushings.   The quilting is done by stippling. This is such a fun quilt, and I decided to make a second insect quilt which I finished on 1.29.2026.  This time I bought chenille-it.   For the backing, I found the fabric at Hobby Lobby which is a bunch of insects on a yellow background.  So it fits perfectly with the ladybug, dragonfly, and bee. After the quilt was finished, I wet down the chenille and put it in the dryer for the chenille to bloom out.  The dragonfly and bee look very fluffy.  I can't tell too much with the ladybug, but all in all, I am really pleased with the outcome of the second quilt...

Watermelon Quilt April 2004

I thought this material looked fun.  Little watermelons with the contrasting material of watermelon seeds.  The quilt is tied.

Shanna's Quilt Nov. 2003.

This was my second quilt to make.  My daughter likes stars.  I combined a couple of different patterns to make it unique.  The quilting was done on a Bailey quilting machine.  We quilted stars on the quilt.  Even Shanna sewed a couple of the stars!

Plaid Chenille Quilt

In 2002 I worked at Waubonsee Community College Career Resource Center.  A co-worker, Merle, brought in a chenille blanket that she made.  I thought it looked so neat and warm and cuddly that I made one.  It was yellow.  We took it to Utah and gave it to my mother.  She was really thrilled with it.  When she passed on, my daughter said she wanted the blanket.  So, I made me another chenille blanket, below.  This one turned out to be a bit on the short side but I used it for several years. Prior to this time, all of my sewing had been in clothing.  So this was the beginning of my quilting. This is a simple man-made chenille with 5 layers of flannel sewing the layers together and then cutting through the first 4 layers. Then to help the material fray and fluff, you wash and dry the quilt. Very soft and fun.  Front Then I decided that I wanted a pink chenille blanket, which I made in a hurry.  Because I was in a hurry, I didn't p...
